Cold shock

Oyster mushrooms that just don't want to grow, while your substrate is completely white as it should be? Then this blog post could sometimes help you! Mushrooms also sometimes need a push and you can give them yourself. How exactly? We will explain that here.

Ice Bucket Challenge

Maybe you still know the Ice Bucket Challenge where a bucket of ice water was emptied above the head? You can do the same with your colonized substrate that just doesn't want to fry. We advise against throwing a bucket of ice water over it, but a few nights in the fridge often works wonders! With this you simulate the change of seasons and thereby triggers the production of fruiting bodies.

Oyster mushrooms Cold Shocken

Depending on the breeding method you use, place the grow kit or Fruity bag For 48 hours in the fridge, preferably as cold as possible (4 ° C is perfect). After 48 hours, remove the grow kit/bag from the refrigerator and place it in a light well-ventilated location at a temperature between 8-14 ° C. From this moment on, make sure that your fruiting bodies do not dry out by keeping them moist with a plant sprayer. After about 14 days, oyster mushrooms begin to form and they can be harvested. The exact production time of course depends on the temperature, humidity and the wavelength and intensity of the ambient light.

Did you know that you can often remove a second flush (harvest) from your substrate? After cutting your oyster mushrooms, wait 1 to 2 weeks and you will see new fungi.
