Lion's Mane (Hericon Erinaceus)

Lion's Mane Growing on Masters Mix

Supplies

  • High pressure pan, autoclave or Steam Cooker
  • A big container to mix in
  • Latex gloves
  • Elastic or a hair band
  • Two clothes pegs
  • 700 ml of hot water
  • Breed for Lion's Mane (at least 150 grams per breeding bag)
  • 1 or more growing pockets
  • Hardwood pellets (500 grams per grow bag)
  • Wheat branch (100 grams per breeding bag)
  • Instead of the bags, pellets and wheat seal you can also choose ourready-made masters mix

Roadmap

  • Put the pellets and 700 ml of water in the container and mix them together.
  • Add the wheat seal as soon as everything is well mixed.
  • Now mix all the ingredients well.
  • Fill the breeding bag with the mixture just above the filter strip.
  • Fold the remaining "flap" around the filter bag and keep it in place through an elastic or hair band to pull the bag.
  • Sterilize the bag for at least 45 minutes in a high -pressure pan, autoclave or Steam Cooker.
  • Let the bag cool down to room temperature for at least 8 hours after sterilizing. Let cooling longer reduces the chance that the culture will fail.
  • In a clean place, for example a countertop that is well cleaned, add the breeding to the breeding bag. Shake this well so that all the breeding is spread through your mixture.
  • Now close the bag at the very top by folding the edge twice and placing clothes pegs on it. First press the air out. Road the bag in a dark place at 18-24 ° C, for example in the room where the central heating boiler is.
  • As soon as after the contents of the bag has become completely white, the Lion's Mane is ready to grow. Now place the bag in a lighter place at 16-21 ° C. This triggers growth.
  • Make a diagonal cut at the front of the top left to the bottom right. As a result, the Mycelium suddenly gets oxygen and you create a place where the Lion's Mane wants to come out.
  • Spray the cut with a nebulizer. That is a plant sprayer with a pump that gives a nice fine mist.
  • Within around a week you see the Lion's Mane appear from the hole (the so -called fruit). In the following days they will mainly increase in size and grow into large bulbs. Keep spraying them with mist, but not too much because you will damage the bulbs.
  • As soon as the Lion's Mane has achieved good size (we use the rule "slightly smaller than a tennis ball") it is time to harvest. Do this in time, because if you wait too long, they will dry out.
