Growing with a King Oyster Mushroom Fruiting Block
Growing King Oyster mushrooms, also known as Eryngii mushrooms, with ready-made fruiting blocks is a relatively simple way to grow mushrooms at home or on a small scale. The King Oyster mushroom or king trumpet mushroom is known for its firm texture and rich taste. A detailed explanation of how to grow King Oyster Mushroom can be found below.
Supplies:
-
Eryngii Fruiting Blocks: Buy ready-made Eryngii fruiting blocks . These blocks are already impregnated with the mycelium (fungus) of the Eryngii mushroom and contain all the nutrients necessary for growth.
-
Growing environment: Create a suitable growing environment for the Eryngii mushrooms. A grow tent , climate chamber for mushrooms or another enclosed space is ideal. Ensure a constant temperature between 18-24 degrees Celsius.
-
Light: Eryngii mushrooms don't need much light, but some ambient light is good. Make sure the blocks are not exposed to direct sunlight.
-
Humidity: Maintain a high humidity of approximately 90%. This can be achieved by regular spraying with water or by using a humidifier.
-
Ventilation: Provide good ventilation in the growing area to promote good air circulation and reduce the chance of mold formation.
Steps for growing:
-
Preparing the blocks:
- Make 2 small cuts of approximately 5cm in the top of the plastic to give the mushrooms oxygen to grow.
-
Placement of the blocks:
- Place the blocks in the growing space on an elevated surface to promote good air circulation.
- The blocks need little light, but make sure they are not completely in the dark.
-
Maintaining optimal conditions:
- Regularly check the temperature, humidity and ventilation in the growing room.
- Spray water as necessary to maintain humidity.
-
Growing and harvesting:
- Within weeks of placing the blocks, the Eryngii mushrooms will begin to grow.
- Harvest the mushrooms when the caps are fully opened, but just before the edges curl.
-
Repeated harvests:
- Some Eryngii blocks are capable of producing multiple times. After the first harvest, a new growth cycle can begin.
-
Waste processing:
- After all the mushrooms have been harvested, you can compost or throw away the used blocks.
